The design was aspired by the intension to create a sense of plasticity in the wooden surface. Inspired by the form of corals this functional object (pencil stand) also offers a sense of relaxation via tactility.

curved cuttings car

The car’s form is defined by the interaction of lengthwise and widthwise curved cuts. Along the meeting points of these cuts, interesting surfaces and plastic details are generated. The two side grooves are inviting to the user’s fingers, thus enabling them to set the car in motion. designed by Panagiotis Tsolakakis

r o lling st o ries "Out of the box" is an expression that describes nonconformal, creative thinking. It is also a fundamental skill of a good designer. In this case, 41 young designers start with a standardized piece of wood with 4 wheels, dimensioned at 8 x 8 x 16cm and asked to come up with a form of an object away from the stereotypes and norms of the automobile. Allowed to work by removing rather than adding material, designers create a form “out of a wooden box”, taking into account not only visual but also tactile qualities of the final shape.

When we were children, the play time had a special moment in our hearts obtaining the ability to see greatness in small things. Where is beauty to be found? In great things that, like everything else, are doomed to die, or in small things that inspire nothing, yet know how to set a jewel of infinity in a single moment?
